Here we must begin in all our inquiries after religion. II. HUMILITY. III. FAITH. IV. PRAYER. Without prayer a man cannot have "the witness in himself" that he is the subject of true piety. V. LOVE. The man that would know whether he be a true Christian must search for evidences of supreme love to God and Christ, and love to the people of God for His sake. VI. HATRED OF SIN. VII. HOLINESS OF LIFE. Essential as the evidences of the heart are to prove a man a Christian, none of them can be considered as genuine unless they are corroborated by the outward conduct.
