The Saddening and the Succouring
Proverbs 12:25
Heaviness in the heart of man makes it stoop: but a good word makes it glad.

I. THE SADDENING IN LIFE. There is a soul-crushing sadness here.

1. Personal affliction that maketh the heart stoop.

2. Social affliction that maketh the heart stoop.

II. THE SUCCOURING IN LIFE. "A good word maketh it glad."

1. What are good words?

(1)  True words;

(2)  kind words;

(3)  suitable words.

2. Where are good words? The gospel is that word. Words about providence, about pardon, about resurrection. Words to comfort us in all our tribulations.

(Urijah R. Thomas.)
