The State of the Corinthians Contrasted with that of the Apostles
1 Corinthians 4:8-13
Now you are full, now you are rich, you have reigned as kings without us: and I would to God you did reign…

I. THE STATE OF THE CORINTHIANS. They were —

1. Full of the good things of this world.

2. As kings, reigning.

3. But their condition spiritually was such as to demand earnest prayer.

II. THE STATE OF THE APOSTLES.

1. Poor in worldly things — rich in faith.

2. A spectacle both to angels and to men; a sight of misery to men; a spectacle of sorrow to angels. But their reward is not far distant.

(J. H. Tasson.)
