Once when visited mediaeval Rome he was shown through all the sumptuously furnished rooms of the Papal Palace, he became almost as much fatigued and dazed as was the queen of Sheba, when she had been dazzled with the riches of Solomon's kingdom; and then it is related as a fine pleasantry of the Pontiff himself, that he remarked to him, "The Church cannot say in our times, Silver and gold have I none!" And Aquinas replied quickly, "No, indeed! neither can the Church say now, In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!"
