It was a simple meal, in which all met as equals, and the rich supplied the necessities of the poor. It would seem as if these profligates — (1) brought with them luxurious food, thus destroying the Christian simplicity of the meal; and(2) brought this not for the benefit of all, but for their own private enjoyment, thus destroying the idea of Christian brotherhood and equality.
