The name, "servant of the Lord," is most honourable. 2. It is a most comprehensive name.How comes it that any whose dispositions thus widely differ should be found among the professed followers of Christ? 1. They have false notions of what constitutes a genuine servant of the Lord. 2. They have low thoughts of God. II. His CHARACTER. 1. He had been slothful. 2. He was therefore wicked. (1) He was wicked because unfaithful to his trust. (2) Because cherishing dishonouring thoughts of his Master. (3) Because he acted contrary to his own avowed convictions. III. His DOOM. 1. A just doom. 2. This will be the doom of many. (1) To every individual is given at least one talent. (2) Of even one talent a strict account will be required. (3) This should lead us to self-examination and prayer. (H. March.)
