Genesis 13:18 Then Abram removed his tent, and came and dwelled in the plain of Mamre, which is in Hebron, and built there an altar to the LORD. Abram's altar was intended — 1. As a public profession of religion in the midst of enemies. 2. As a constant memorial of God's presence. 3. As a tribute of gratitude for His mercies. 4. As expressing a sense of obligation to His love, and a desire to enjoy His presence. 5. As a sign of his determination to be fully dedicated to God. (T. H. Leale.)
