Psalm 19:13 Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright… What is it to sin presumptuously? The word means, "with a high hand." Then, to sin presumptuously is to sin in an aggravated degree. 1. To sin in opposition to knowledge is to sin presumptuously. This is not characteristic of all sins. Some sins are products of ignorance. 2. To sin in contrariety to conscience is to sin presumptuously. 3. To sin in defiance of the common operations of the Divine Spirit. 4. To sin after having deliberated about the commission of it. 5. To sin when there is no strong temptation to the commission of it. 6. To sin notwithstanding adverse dispensations of Divine providence are loudly calling for sin to be abhorred and avoided. 7. To sin in the hope of ultimately obtaining mercy. (A. Jack, D. D.) Parallel Verses KJV: Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression. |
