Mark 4:26-29 And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground;… Not only does the corn always go on growing, but it always observes the same order and succession in its growth; "first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear." This is an order which is never reversed or altered; it is always the full corn in the ear which is the last to show itself. And so it is with the heart. First, it is always repentance and sorrow for sin; then, faith in Jesus Christ; then, without losing these, any more than the grain loses the protection of the blade and the ear, it goes on to holiness of life, and a sure hope in God's promises; and last of all to love, love the ripened corn, the fulfilling of the ear.
