Jude 1:6 And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation… I. IT IS IN THE NATURE OF SIN TO RELINQUISH THAT WHICH IS VIRTUOUS, BEAUTIFUL, AND HAPPY. Dissatisfaction, ambition, or a love of change might have been the cause. (1) It was an interference with the Divine order of things. Eternal wisdom was contemned. Sin is an offence against the majesty and sovereignty of God. (2) It depreciated present blessing and neglected duty. (3) It deprived them of their beautiful home. II. GOD HAS APPOINTED RESTRICTING INFLUENCES, AND A FINAL DOOM FOR THE SINFUL. There are chains — bounds which the transgressors cannot overstep. Sin is apprehended by law, justice, and the moral sense. But all sin is on its way to a finality. (T. Davies, D. D.) Parallel Verses KJV: And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. |
