I've been upon the ocean forty years" (you know with captains the last storm is the worst that they ever saw), "and I never saw a time like the one we've just passed — we've been near foundering a dozen times. We've lost our topmasts and our bowsprit, our sails are torn into ribbons, our bulwarks are stove in, we've lost our boats; I've lost all I had and my men are nearly worn out.
