17 For Herod himself having sent, arrested John, and bound him in prison on account of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip: because he married her. 18 For John said to Herod, It is not lawful for thee to have the wife of thy brother. 19 And Herodias hated him, and wished to kill him; and was not able; 20 for Herod was afraid of John, knowing him to be a just and holy man, and he continued to hold him in prison: and hearing him, he continued to do many things, and he was hearing him gladly.
