39 They answered Him, Abraham is our father, Jesus replied, If ye were the children of Abraham, ye would do the works of Abraham: 40 but now ye seek to kill me, who have told you the truth which I have heard from God: Abraham did not thus. 41 But ye do the works of your father. Then said they unto Him, We are not born of fornication, we have one Father, even God. 42 Jesus said unto them, If God were your father, ye would love me: for I came forth, and do come, from God; neither came I of myself, but He sent me. 43 And why do ye not understand my language, but because ye cannot bear my doctrine? 44 Ye are of your father the devil, and are bent upon doing the lusts of your father: he was a murderer from the beginning, and continued not in the truth: for there is no truth in him.
