2 Now there was a man in Maon (habitation) whose business was in Carmel (garden-land). He was a very wealthy man with a thousand goats and three thousand sheep, which he was shearing in Carmel.

3 His name was Nabal (fool), and his wife’s name was Abigail (my father is joy). She was an intelligent and beautiful woman, but her husband, a Calebite, was harsh and evil in his dealings.
