Walk in the manner of the ant, O slacker; observe its ways and become wise. Go to the ant, O sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise. Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise!
Without a commander, without an overseer or ruler, Without having any chief, officer, or ruler, It has no commander, no overseer or ruler,
it prepares its provisions in summer; it gathers its food at harvest. she prepares her bread in summer and gathers her food in harvest. yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest.
How long will you lie there, O slacker? When will you get up from your sleep? How long will you lie there, O sluggard? When will you arise from your sleep? How long will you lie there, you sluggard? When will you get up from your sleep?
A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest—
and poverty will come upon you like a robber, and need like a bandit. and poverty will come upon you like a robber, and want like an armed man. and poverty will come on you like a thief and scarcity like an armed man.
