| 26 | For a harlot consumes to a cake of bread, || And an adulteress hunts the precious soul. | for the price of a prostitute is only a loaf of bread, but a married woman hunts down a precious life. | For a prostitute can be had for a loaf of bread, but another man’s wife preys on your very life. | |
| 27 | Does a man take fire into his bosom, || And are his garments not burned? | Can a man carry fire next to his chest and his clothes not be burned? | Can a man scoop fire into his lap without his clothes being burned? | |
| 28 | Does a man walk on the hot coals, || And are his feet not scorched? | Or can one walk on hot coals and his feet not be scorched? | Can a man walk on hot coals without his feet being scorched? | |
| 29 | So [is] he who has gone in to the wife of his neighbor, || None who touches her is innocent. | So is he who goes in to his neighbor’s wife; none who touches her will go unpunished. | So is he who sleeps with another man’s wife; no one who touches her will go unpunished. | |
