Be like the ant, consider her ways, and be wise; Go to the ant, O sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise. Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise!
Though having no harvest and no ruler over her, neither any one to guide her, Without having any chief, officer, or ruler, It has no commander, no overseer or ruler,
She provides her bread in the summer and gathers her food in the harvest. she prepares her bread in summer and gathers her food in harvest. yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest.
How long will you sleep, O sluggard? When will you arise from your sleep? How long will you lie there, O sluggard? When will you arise from your sleep? How long will you lie there, you sluggard? When will you get up from your sleep?
Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands on the chest; A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest—
And then poverty shall come upon you, and distress shall overtake you; become a successful man. and poverty will come upon you like a robber, and want like an armed man. and poverty will come on you like a thief and scarcity like an armed man.
