1 The plans of the heart belong to man, but the reply of the tongue is from the LORD. The plans of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the LORD. The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, <i>is</i> from the LORD. The plans of the heart belong to a person, But the answer of the tongue is from the LORD. To humans belong the plans of the heart, but from the LORD comes the proper answer of the tongue.
2 All a man’s ways are pure in his own eyes, but his motives are weighed out by the LORD. All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, but the LORD weighs the spirit. All the ways of a man <i>are</i> clean in his own eyes; but the LORD weigheth the spirits. All the ways of a person are clean in his own sight, But the LORD examines the motives. All a person’s ways seem pure to them, but motives are weighed by the LORD.
3 Commit your works to the LORD and your plans will be achieved. Commit your work to the LORD, and your plans will be established. Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established. Commit your works to the LORD, And your plans will be established. Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.
4 The LORD has made everything for His purpose— even the wicked for the day of disaster. The LORD has made everything for its purpose, even the wicked for the day of trouble. The LORD hath made all <i>things</i> for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil. The LORD has made everything for its own purpose, Even the wicked for the day of evil. 5 Everyone who is proud in heart is detestable to the LORD; be assured that he will not go unpunished. Everyone who is arrogant in heart is an abomination to the LORD; be assured, he will not go unpunished. Every one <i>that is</i> proud in heart <i>is</i> an abomination to the LORD: <i>though</i> hand <i>join</i> in hand, he shall not be unpunished. 6 By loving devotion and faithfulness iniquity is atoned for, and by the fear of the LORD one turns aside from evil. By steadfast love and faithfulness iniquity is atoned for, and by the fear of the LORD one turns away from evil. By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD <i>men</i> depart from evil. By mercy and truth atonement is made for wrongdoing, And by the fear of the LORD one keeps away from evil. Through love and faithfulness sin is atoned for; through the fear of the LORD evil is avoided.
7 When a man’s ways please the LORD, He makes even the man’s enemies live at peace with him. When a man’s ways please the LORD, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him. When a man's ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him. When a person’s ways are pleasing to the LORD, He causes even his enemies to make peace with him. When the LORD takes pleasure in anyone’s way, he causes their enemies to make peace with them.
8 Better a little with righteousness than great gain with injustice. Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues with injustice. 9 A man’s heart plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps. The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps. 17 The highway of the upright leads away from evil; he who guards his way protects his life. The highway of the upright turns aside from evil; whoever guards his way preserves his life. He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the LORD, happy <i>is</i> he. One who pays attention to the word will find good, And blessed is one who trusts in the LORD. Whoever gives heed to instruction prospers, and blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD.
21 The wise in heart are called discerning, and pleasant speech promotes instruction. The wise of heart is called discerning, and sweetness of speech increases persuasiveness. The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning. The wise in heart will be called understanding, And sweetness of speech increases persuasiveness. The wise in heart are called discerning, and gracious words promote instruction.
22 Understanding is a fountain of life to its possessor, but the discipline of fools is folly. Good sense is a fountain of life to him who has it, but the instruction of fools is folly. Understanding <i>is</i> a wellspring of life unto him that hath it: but the instruction of fools <i>is</i> folly. Understanding is a fountain of life to those who have it, But the discipline of fools is foolishness. Prudence is a fountain of life to the prudent, but folly brings punishment to fools.
