Proverbs of Solomon. A wise son causes a father to rejoice, || And a foolish son [is] an affliction to his mother. The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son makes a glad father, but a foolish son is a sorrow to his mother. The proverbs of Solomon: A wise son brings joy to his father, but a foolish son brings grief to his mother.
Treasures of wickedness do not profit, || And righteousness delivers from death. Treasures gained by wickedness do not profit, but righteousness delivers from death. Ill-gotten treasures have no lasting value, but righteousness delivers from death.
YHWH does not cause the soul of the righteous to hunger, || And He thrusts away the desire of the wicked. The LORD does not let the righteous go hungry, but he thwarts the craving of the wicked. The LORD does not let the righteous go hungry, but he thwarts the craving of the wicked.
Poor [is] he who is working [with] a slothful hand, || And the hand of the diligent makes rich. A slack hand causes poverty, but the hand of the diligent makes rich. Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth.
Whoever is gathering in summer [is] a wise son, || Whoever is sleeping in harvest [is] a son causing shame. He who gathers in summer is a prudent son, but he who sleeps in harvest is a son who brings shame. He who gathers crops in summer is a prudent son, but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son.
