1 And the word of the LORD came to me, saying, The word of the LORD came to me: Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Moreover, the word of the LORD came to me, saying, The word of the LORD came to me:
2 “O son of man, this is what the Lord GOD says to the land of Israel: ‘The end! The end has come upon the four corners of the land. “And you, O son of man, thus says the Lord GOD to the land of Israel: An end! The end has come upon the four corners of the land. Also, thou son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD unto the land of Israel; An end, the end is come upon the four corners of the land. “And you, son of man, this is what the Lord GOD says to the land of Israel: ‘An end! The end is coming on the four corners of the land. “Son of man, this is what the Sovereign LORD says to the land of Israel: “’The end! The end has come upon the four corners of the land!
3 The end is now upon you, and I will unleash My anger against you. I will judge you according to your ways and repay you for all your abominations. Now the end is upon you, and I will send my anger upon you; I will judge you according to your ways, and I will punish you for all your abominations. Now <i>is</i> the end <i>come</i> upon thee, and I will send mine anger upon thee, and will judge thee according to thy ways, and will recompense upon thee all thine abominations. Now the end is upon you, for I will send My anger against you; I will judge you according to your ways and bring all your abominations upon you. The end is now upon you, and I will unleash my anger against you. I will judge you according to your conduct and repay you for all your detestable practices.
4 I will not look on you with pity, nor will I spare you, but I will punish you for your ways and for the abominations among you. Then you will know that I am the LORD.’ And my eye will not spare you, nor will I have pity, but I will punish you for your ways, while your abominations are in your midst. Then you will know that I am the LORD. And mine eye shall not spare thee, neither will I have pity: but I will recompense thy ways upon thee, and thine abominations shall be in the midst of thee: and ye shall know that I <i>am</i> the LORD. And My eye will have no pity on you, nor will I spare <i>you,</i> but I will bring your ways upon you, and your abominations will be among you; then you will know that I am the LORD!’ I will not look on you with pity; I will not spare you. I will surely repay you for your conduct and for the detestable practices among you. “’Then you will know that I am the LORD.’
5 This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Disaster! An unprecedented disaster behold, it is coming! “Thus says the Lord GOD: Disaster after disaster! Behold, it comes. Thus saith the Lord GOD; An evil, an only evil, behold, is come. “This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘A disaster, a unique disaster, behold, it is coming! “This is what the Sovereign LORD says: “’Disaster! Unheard-of disaster! See, it comes!
6 The end has come! The end has come! It has roused itself against you. Behold, it has come! An end has come; the end has come; it has awakened against you. Behold, it comes. An end is come, the end is come: it watcheth for thee; behold, it is come. An end is coming; the end has come! It has awakened against you; behold, it has come! The end has come! The end has come! It has roused itself against you. See, it comes!
7 Doom has come to you, O inhabitants of the land. The time has come; the day is near; there is panic on the mountains instead of shouts of joy. Your doom has come to you, O inhabitant of the land. The time has come; the day is near, a day of tumult, and not of joyful shouting on the mountains. The morning is come unto thee, O thou that dwellest in the land: the time is come, the day of trouble <i>is</i> near, and not the sounding again of the mountains. Your doom has come to you, you inhabitant of the land. The time has come, the day is near—panic rather than joyful shouting <i>on the</i> mountains. Doom has come upon you, upon you who dwell in the land. The time has come! The day is near! There is panic, not joy, on the mountains.
8 Very soon I will pour out My wrath upon you and vent My anger against you; I will judge you according to your ways and repay you for all your abominations. Now I will soon pour out my wrath upon you, and spend my anger against you, and judge you according to your ways, and I will punish you for all your abominations. Now will I shortly pour out my fury upon thee, and accomplish mine anger upon thee: and I will judge thee according to thy ways, and will recompense thee for all thine abominations. Now I will shortly pour out My wrath on you and expend My anger against you; I will judge you according to your ways and bring on you all your abominations. I am about to pour out my wrath on you and spend my anger against you. I will judge you according to your conduct and repay you for all your detestable practices.
9 I will not look on you with pity, nor will I spare you, but I will punish you for your ways and for the abominations among you. Then you will know that it is I, the LORD, who strikes the blow. And my eye will not spare, nor will I have pity. I will punish you according to your ways, while your abominations are in your midst. Then you will know that I am the LORD, who strikes. And mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity: I will recompense thee according to thy ways and thine abominations <i>that</i> are in the midst of thee; and ye shall know that I <i>am</i> the LORD that smiteth. My eye will have no pity nor will I spare <i>you.</i> I will repay you according to your ways, while your abominations are in your midst; then you will know that I, the LORD, am striking. I will not look on you with pity; I will not spare you. I will repay you for your conduct and for the detestable practices among you. “’Then you will know that it is I the LORD who strikes you.
10 Behold, the day is here! It has come! Doom has gone out, the rod has budded, arrogance has bloomed. “Behold, the day! Behold, it comes! Your doom has come; the rod has blossomed; pride has budded. Behold the day, behold, it is come: the morning is gone forth; the rod hath blossomed, pride hath budded. ‘Behold, the day! Behold, it is coming! <i>Your</i> doom has gone forth; the rod has budded, arrogance has blossomed. “’See, the day! See, it comes! Doom has burst forth, the rod has budded, arrogance has blossomed!
11 Their violence has grown into a rod to punish their wickedness. None of them will remain: none of their multitude, none of their wealth, and nothing of value. Violence has grown up into a rod of wickedness. None of them shall remain, nor their abundance, nor their wealth; neither shall there be preeminence among them. Violence is risen up into a rod of wickedness: none of them <i>shall remain</i>, nor of their multitude, nor of any of theirs: neither <i>shall there be</i> wailing for them. Violence has grown into a rod of wickedness. None of them <i>shall remain,</i> none of their people, none of their wealth, nor <i>anything</i> eminent among them. 12 The time has come; the day has arrived. Let the buyer not rejoice and the seller not mourn, for wrath is upon the whole multitude. The time has come; the day has arrived. Let not the buyer rejoice, nor the seller mourn, for wrath is upon all their multitude. The time is come, the day draweth near: let not the buyer rejoice, nor the seller mourn: for wrath <i>is</i> upon all the multitude thereof. The time has come, the day has arrived. Let neither the buyer rejoice nor the seller mourn; for wrath is against all their multitude. The time has come! The day has arrived! Let not the buyer rejoice nor the seller grieve, for my wrath is on the whole crowd.
13 The seller will surely not recover what he sold while both remain alive. For the vision concerning the whole multitude will not be revoked, and because of their iniquity, not one of them will preserve his life. For the seller shall not return to what he has sold, while they live. For the vision concerns all their multitude; it shall not turn back; and because of his iniquity, none can maintain his life. For the seller shall not return to that which is sold, although they were yet alive: for the vision <i>is</i> touching the whole multitude thereof, <i>which</i> shall not return; neither shall any strengthen himself in the iniquity of his life. Indeed, the seller will not regain what he sold as long as they <i>both</i> live; for the vision regarding all their multitude will not be averted, nor will any of them maintain his life by his wrongdoing. The seller will not recover the property that was sold— as long as both buyer and seller live. For the vision concerning the whole crowd will not be reversed. Because of their sins, not one of them will preserve their life.
14 They have blown the trumpet and made everything ready, but no one goes to war, for My wrath is upon the whole multitude. “They have blown the trumpet and made everything ready, but none goes to battle, for my wrath is upon all their multitude. They have blown the trumpet, even to make all ready; but none goeth to the battle: for my wrath <i>is</i> upon all the multitude thereof. ‘They have blown the trumpet and made everything ready, but no one is going to the battle, for My wrath is against all their multitude. “’They have blown the trumpet, they have made all things ready, but no one will go into battle, for my wrath is on the whole crowd.
15 The sword is outside; plague and famine are within. Those in the country will die by the sword, and those in the city will be devoured by famine and plague. The sword is without; pestilence and famine are within. He who is in the field dies by the sword, and him who is in the city famine and pestilence devour. The sword <i>is</i> without, and the pestilence and the famine within: he that <i>is</i> in the field shall die with the sword; and he that <i>is</i> in the city, famine and pestilence shall devour him. The sword is outside <i>the city</i> and the plague and the famine are within. <i>Anyone</i> who is in the field will die by the sword, while famine and the plague will consume those in the city. Outside is the sword; inside are plague and famine. Those in the country will die by the sword; those in the city will be devoured by famine and plague.
16 The survivors will escape and live in the mountains, moaning like doves of the valley, each for his own iniquity. And if any survivors escape, they will be on the mountains, like doves of the valleys, all of them moaning, each one over his iniquity. But they that escape of them shall escape, and shall be on the mountains like doves of the valleys, all of them mourning, every one for his iniquity. Even when their survivors escape, they will be on the mountains like doves of the valleys, all of them moaning, each over his own wrongdoing. The fugitives who escape will flee to the mountains. 17 Every hand will go limp, and every knee will turn to water. All hands are feeble, and all knees turn to water. All hands shall be feeble, and all knees shall be weak <i>as</i> water. All hands will hang limp, and all knees will drip with water. Every hand will go limp; every leg will be wet with urine.
18 They will put on sackcloth, and terror will overwhelm them. Shame will cover all their faces, and all their heads will be shaved. They put on sackcloth, and horror covers them. Shame is on all faces, and baldness on all their heads. They shall also gird <i>themselves</i> with sackcloth, and horror shall cover them; and shame <i>shall be</i> upon all faces, and baldness upon all their heads. They will put on sackcloth and shuddering will overwhelm them; and shame <i>will be</i> on all faces, and a bald patch on all their heads. They will put on sackcloth and be clothed with terror. Every face will be covered with shame, and every head will be shaved.
19 They will throw their silver into the streets, and their gold will seem unclean. Their silver and gold cannot save them in the day of the wrath of the LORD. They cannot satisfy their appetites or fill their stomachs with wealth, for it became the stumbling block that brought their iniquity. They cast their silver into the streets, and their gold is like an unclean thing. Their silver and gold are not able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the LORD. They cannot satisfy their hunger or fill their stomachs with it. For it was the stumbling block of their iniquity. They shall cast their silver in the streets, and their gold shall be removed: their silver and their gold shall not be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the LORD: they shall not satisfy their souls, neither fill their bowels: because it is the stumblingblock of their iniquity. They will fling their silver into the streets, and their gold will become an abhorrent thing; their silver and their gold will not be able to save them on the day of the wrath of the LORD. They cannot satisfy their appetite, nor can they fill their stomachs, because their wrongdoing has become a cause of stumbling. “’They will throw their silver into the streets, and their gold will be treated as a thing unclean. Their silver and gold will not be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD’s wrath. It will not satisfy their hunger or fill their stomachs, for it has caused them to stumble into sin.
20 His beautiful ornaments they transformed into pride and used them to fashion their vile images and detestable idols. Therefore I will make these into something unclean for them. His beautiful ornament they used for pride, and they made their abominable images and their detestable things of it. Therefore I make it an unclean thing to them. As for the beauty of his ornament, he set it in majesty: but they made the images of their abominations <i>and</i> of their detestable things therein: therefore have I set it far from them. Moreover, they transformed the splendor of His jewels into pride, and they made the images of their abominations <i>and</i> their detestable things with it; therefore I will make it an abhorrent thing to them. They took pride in their beautiful jewelry and used it to make their detestable idols. They made it into vile images; therefore I will make it a thing unclean for them.
21 And I will hand these things over as plunder to foreigners and loot to the wicked of the earth, who will defile them. And I will give it into the hands of foreigners for prey, and to the wicked of the earth for spoil, and they shall profane it. And I will give it into the hands of the strangers for a prey, and to the wicked of the earth for a spoil; and they shall pollute it. And I will hand it over to the foreigners as plunder, and to the wicked of the earth as spoils; and they will profane it. I will give their wealth as plunder to foreigners and as loot to the wicked of the earth, who will defile it.
22 I will turn My face away from them, and they will defile My treasured place. Violent men will enter it, and they will defile it. I will turn my face from them, and they shall profane my treasured place. Robbers shall enter and profane it. My face will I turn also from them, and they shall pollute my secret <i>place</i>: for the robbers shall enter into it, and defile it. I will also turn My face away from them, and they will profane My treasure; then robbers will enter and profane it. I will turn my face away from the people, and robbers will desecrate the place I treasure. They will enter it and will defile it.
23 Forge the chain, for the land is full of crimes of bloodshed, and the city is full of violence. “Forge a chain! For the land is full of bloody crimes and the city is full of violence. Make a chain: for the land is full of bloody crimes, and the city is full of violence. ‘Make the chain, for the land is full of bloody crimes, and the city is full of violence. “’Prepare chains! For the land is full of bloodshed, and the city is full of violence.
24 So I will bring the most wicked of nations to take possession of their houses. I will end the pride of the mighty, and their holy places will be profaned. I will bring the worst of the nations to take possession of their houses. I will put an end to the pride of the strong, and their holy places shall be profaned. Wherefore I will bring the worst of the heathen, and they shall possess their houses: I will also make the pomp of the strong to cease; and their holy places shall be defiled. Therefore, I will bring the worst of the nations, and they will take possession of their houses. I will also put an end to the pride of the strong ones, and their holy places will be profaned. I will bring the most wicked of nations to take possession of their houses. I will put an end to the pride of the mighty, and their sanctuaries will be desecrated.
25 Anguish is coming! They will seek peace, but find none. When anguish comes, they will seek peace, but there shall be none. 26 Disaster upon disaster will come, and rumor after rumor. Then they will seek a vision from a prophet, but instruction from the priests will perish, as will counsel from the elders. Mischief shall come upon mischief, and rumour shall be upon rumour; then shall they seek a vision of the prophet; but the law shall perish from the priest, and counsel from the ancients. Disaster will come upon disaster and rumor will be <i>added</i> to rumor; then they will seek a vision from a prophet, but the Law will be lost from the priest, and counsel from the elders. Calamity upon calamity will come, and rumor upon rumor. They will go searching for a vision from the prophet, priestly instruction in the law will cease, the counsel of the elders will come to an end.
27 The king will mourn, the prince will be clothed with despair, and the hands of the people of the land will tremble. I will deal with them according to their conduct, and I will judge them by their own standards. Then they will know that I am the LORD.’ ” The king mourns, the prince is wrapped in despair, and the hands of the people of the land are paralyzed by terror. According to their way I will do to them, and according to their judgments I will judge them, and they shall know that I am the LORD.” The king shall mourn, and the prince shall be clothed with desolation, and the hands of the people of the land shall be troubled: I will do unto them after their way, and according to their deserts will I judge them; and they shall know that I <i>am</i> the LORD. The king will mourn, the prince will be clothed in horror, and the hands of the people of the land will tremble. I will deal with them because of their conduct, and by their judgments I will judge them.
