A Prayer of the Afflicted, when he is faint, and pours out his complaint before the LORD. 1Hear my prayer, O LORD! 2Do not hide Thy face from me in the day of my distress; 3For my days have been consumed in smoke, 4My heart has been smitten like grass and has withered away, 5Because of the loudness of my groaning 6I resemble a pelican of the wilderness; 7I lie awake, 8My enemies have reproached me all day long; 9For I have eaten ashes like bread, 10Because of Thine indignation and Thy wrath; 11My days are like a lengthened shadow; 12But Thou, O LORD, dost abide forever; 13Thou wilt arise and have compassion on Zion; 14Surely Thy servants find pleasure in her stones, 15So the nations will fear the name of the LORD, 16For the LORD has built up Zion; 17He has regarded the prayer of the destitute, 18This will be written for the generation to come; 19For He looked down from His holy height; 20To hear the groaning of the prisoner; 21That men may tell of the name of the LORD in Zion, 22When the peoples are gathered together, 23He has weakened my strength in the way; 24I say, “O my God, do not take me away in the midst of my days, 25“Of old Thou didst found the earth; 26“Even they will perish, but Thou dost endure; 27“But Thou art the same, 28“The children of Thy servants will continue, New American Standard Bible Copyright © 1960, 1962, 1963, 1968, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1975, 1977, 1995 by The Lockman Foundation, La Habra, Calif.
