Marsden, Joshua, a Wesleyan minister, was born in 1777, and died in 1837. His early educational advantages were very limited, and he did not, it seems, make the most of such as he had. He was a wild, thoughtless, and wicked boy. At the age of eighteen he enlisted in the British navy and grew more reckless than ever. But at length, he says, "the grace of God that bringeth salvation turned my feet into the way of peace." He became a missionary to Nova Scotia, and afterwards to the Bermuda Islands. He was the author of several books. His poems were entitled The Amusements of a Mission, 1812. Go, ye messengers of God 640 |
