E short, as in men, Ned, wed, enemy.
EE long, as in deem, heed, seen, see.
I short, as in sin, pin, tin, in.
O short, as in on, top, sod, yonder.
OO long, as in noon, moon, spoon.
U short as in tun, sun, under, number.
Y has the same sound as in English -- as in yonder, way.
