1These things have I spoken to you^p, that you^p should not be offended. caused to stumble

2They shall put you^p out of the synagogues: yea, the time comes, that whosoever kills you^p will think that he does God service.

3And these things will they do to you^p, because they have not known the Father, nor Me.

4But these things have I told you^p, that when the time shall come, you^p may remember that I told you^p of them. And these things I said not to you^p at the beginning, because I was with you^p.

The Work of the Holy Spirit

5But now I go my way to Him that sent Me; and none of you^p asks Me, Where go You?

6But because I have said these things to you^p, sorrow has filled your^p heart.

7Nevertheless I tell you^p the truth; It is expedient for you^p that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come to you^p; but if I depart, I will send Him to you^p. advisable; Holy Spirit

8And when He is come, He will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: convict; God’s judgment

9Of sin, because they believe not on Me;

10Of righteousness, because I go to My Father, and you^p see Me no more;

11Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. Satan

12I have yet many things to say to you^p, but you^p cannot bear them now. understand

13However when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you^p into all truth: for He shall not speak of Himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will show you^p things to come.

14He shall glorify Me: for He shall receive of Mine, and shall show it to you^p.

15All things that the Father has are Mine: therefore said I, that He shall take of Mine, and shall show it to you^p.

Sorrow Will Turn to Joy

16A little while, and you^p shall not see Me: and again, a little while, and you^p shall see Me, because I go to the Father.

17Then said some of His disciples among themselves, What is this that He says to us, A little while, and you^p shall not see Me: and again, a little while, and you^p shall see Me: and, Because I go to the Father?

18They said therefore, What is this that He says, A little while? we cannot tell what He says. do not understand

19Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask Him, and said to them, Do you^p inquire among yourselves^p of that I said, A little while, and you^p shall not see Me: and again, a little while, and you^p shall see Me?

20Verily, verily, I say to you^p, That you^p shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and you^p shall be sorrowful, but your^p sorrow shall be turned into joy. ISA 13:8 | truly

21A woman when she is in travail has sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembers no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world. ISA 13:8 | birth pains

22And you^p now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you^p again, and your^p heart shall rejoice, and your^p joy no man takes from you^p.

23And in that day you^p shall ask Me nothing. Verily, verily, I say to you^p, Whatsoever you^p shall ask the Father in My name, He will give it you^p.

24Until now have you^p asked nothing in My name: ask, and you^p shall receive, that your^p joy may be full.

Jesus Christ Has Overcome the World

25These things have I spoken to you^p in proverbs: but the time comes, when I shall no more speak to you^p in proverbs, but I shall show you^p plainly of the Father. symbolic or figurative sayings

26At that day you^p shall ask in My name: and I say not to you^p, that I will pray the Father for you^p:

27For the Father Himself loves you^p, because you^p have loved Me, and have believed that I came out from God.

28I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.

29His disciples said to Him, Lo, now speak You plainly, and speak no proverb. symbolic or figurative saying

30Now are we sure that You know all things, and need not that any man should ask You: by this we believe that You came forth from God.

31Jesus answered them, Do you^p now believe?

32Behold, the hour comes, yea, is now come, that you^p shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave Me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me. ZEC 13:7 | own home

33These things I have spoken to you^p, that in Me you^p might have peace. In the world you^p shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. oppression
