The Flight to Egypt Forbidden

Then all the captains of the forces, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least even to the greatest, came near,

And said to Jeremiah the prophet, Let, we beseech you, our supplication be accepted before you, and pray for us to the Lord your God, even for all this remnant; (for we are left but a few of many, as your eyes do behold us:)   beg

That the Lord your God may show us the way wherein we may walk, and the thing that we may do.

Then Jeremiah the prophet said to them, I have heard youp; behold, I will pray to the Lord yourp God according to yourp words; and it shall come to pass, that whatsoever thing the Lord shall answer youp, I will declare it to youp; I will keep nothing back from youp.

Then they said to Jeremiah, The Lord be a true and faithful witness between us, if we do not even according to all things for the which the Lord your God shall send you to us.

Whether it be good, or whether it be evil, we will obey the voice of the Lord our God, to whom we send you; that it may be well with us, when we obey the voice of the Lord our God.

And it came to pass after ten days, that the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah.

Then called he Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces which were with him, and all the people from the least even to the greatest,

And said to them, Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, to whom youp sent me to present yourp supplication before him;

If youp will still abide in this land, then will I build youp, and not pull youp down, and I will plant youp, and not pluck youp up: for I repent Me of the evil that I have done to you.p   relent, grieve

Be not afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom youp are afraid; be not afraid of him, says the Lord: for I am with youp to save youp, and to deliver youp from his hand.

And I will show mercies to youp, that he may have mercy upon youp, and cause youp to return to yourp own land.

But if youp say, We will not dwell in this land, neither obey the voice of the Lord yourp God,

Saying, No; but we will go into the land of Egypt, where we shall see no war, nor hear the sound of the trumpet, nor have hunger of bread; and there will we dwell:

And now therefore hear the word of the Lord, youp remnant of Judah; Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; If youp wholly set yourp faces to enter into Egypt, and go to sojourn there;   Jehovahs.f. Tsebaothp.f.; live temporarily

Then it shall come to pass, that the sword, which youp feared, shall overtake youp there in the land of Egypt, and the famine, whereof youp were afraid, shall follow close after youp there in Egypt; and there youp shall die.

So shall it be with all the men that set their faces to go into Egypt to sojourn there; they shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence: and none of them shall remain or escape from the evil that I will bring upon them.   are determined; disease

For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; As My anger and My fury has been poured forth upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem; so shall My fury be poured forth upon youp, when youp shall enter into Egypt: and youp shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach; and youp shall see this place no more.   object of curses; a horror

The Lord has said concerning youp, O youp remnant of Judah; Go youp not into Egypt: know certainly that I have admonished youp this day.   warned

For youp dissembled in yourp hearts, when youp sent me to the Lord yourp God, saying, Pray for us to the Lord our God; and according to all that the Lord our God shall say, so declare to us, and we will do it.   used deceit

And now I have this day declared it to youp; but youp have not obeyed the voice of the Lord yourp God, nor any thing for the which He has sent me to youp.

Now therefore know certainly that youp shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, in the place where youp desire to go and to sojourn.   disease
