The Wickedness of Judah

2Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth: for the Lord has spoken, I have nourished and brought up children, and they have rebelled against Me.

3The ox knows its owner, and the ass its master’s crib: but Israel does not know, My people do not consider.   manger

4Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have forsaken the Lord, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel to anger, they are gone away backward.   offspring, descendants; turned from Him

5Why should you^p be stricken any more? you^p will revolt more and more: the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.

6From the sole of the foot even to the head there is no soundness in it; but wounds, and bruises, and putrefying sores: they have not been closed, neither bound up, neither mollified with ointment.   soothed

7Your^p country is desolate, your^p cities are burned with fire: your^p land, strangers devour it in your^p presence, and it is desolate, as overthrown by strangers.

8And the daughter of Zion is left as a cottage in a vineyard, as a lodge in a garden of cucumbers, as a besieged city.   shelter

9Except the Lord of hosts had left to us a very small remnant, we should have been as Sodom, and we should have been like to Gomorrah.   ROM 9:29 | Jehovah^s.f. Tsebaoth^p.f.

10Hear the word of the Lord, you^p rulers of Sodom; give ear to the law of our God, you^p people of Gomorrah.

11To what purpose is the multitude of your^p sacrifices to Me? says the Lord: I am full of the burned offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he goats.

12When you^p come to appear before Me, who has required this at your^p hand, to tread My courts?   trample

13Bring no more vain oblations; incense is an abomination to Me; the new moons and sabbaths, the calling of assemblies, I cannot away with; it is iniquity, even the solemn meeting.   offerings; detestable; endure

14Your^p new moons and your^p appointed feasts My soul hates: they are a trouble to Me; I am weary to bear them.

15And when you^p spread forth your^p hands, I will hide My eyes from you^p: yea, when you^p make many prayers, I will not hear: your^p hands are full of blood.

16Wash you^p, make you^p clean; put away the evil of your^p doings from before My eyes; cease to do evil;   ROM 12:9

17Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.

18Come now, and let us reason together, says the Lord: though your^p sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

19If you^p be willing and obedient, you^p shall eat the good of the land:

20But if you^p refuse and rebel, you^p shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the Lord has spoken it.
