The Corinthians’ Repentance

2Receive us; we have wronged no man, we have corrupted no man, we have defrauded no man.   wronged; taken advantage of

3I speak not this to condemn you^p: for I have said before, that you^p are in our hearts to die and live with you^p.

4Great is my boldness of speech toward you^p, great is my glorying of you^p: I am filled with comfort, I am exceeding joyful in all our tribulation.   boasting; afflictions

5For, when we were come into Macedonia, our flesh had no rest, but we were troubled on every side; outside were fightings, inside were fears.

6Nevertheless God, that comforts those that are cast down, comforted us by the coming of Titus;

7And not by his coming only, but by the consolation wherewith he was comforted in you^p, when he told us your^p earnest desire, your^p mourning, your^p fervent mind toward me; so that I rejoiced the more.   zealous concern

8For though I made you^p sorry with a letter, I do not repent, though I did repent: for I perceive that the same epistle has made you^p sorry, though it were but for a season.   regret it; letter; time

9Now I rejoice, not that you^p were made sorry, but that you^p sorrowed to repentance: for you^p were made sorry after a godly manner, that you^p might receive damage by us in nothing.   according to; suffer loss

10For godly sorrow works repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world works death.   ECC 7:3

11For behold this selfsame thing, that you^p sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you^p, yea, what clearing of yourselves^p, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things you^p have approved yourselves^p to be clear in this matter.   shown; innocent

12Wherefore, though I wrote to you^p, I did it not for his cause that had done the wrong, nor for his cause that suffered wrong, but that our care for you^p in the sight of God might appear to you^p.
