The Folly of Covetousness
Interwoven Gospels

Then one of the multitude said to Jesus, "Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me." But He said to him, "Man, who appointed Me a judge or divider over you?" Then He said to them, "Beware, and keep yourselves from all covetousness; for not in the abundance that any one hath, of what he possesseth, is his life."

And He spake a parable to them, saying, "The land of a certain rich man brought forth bountifully. And he reasoned within himself, saying, 'What shall I do, since I have not where to store my fruits?' And he said, 'This will I do: I will pull down my barns and build greater; and there will I store my produce and my good things. And I will say to my soul, soul, thou hast many good things laid up for many years; take thy rest, eat, drink, be merry." But God said to him, 'Thou fool! This night thy soul will be required of thee; and the things which thou hast hoarded, whose shall they be?' So is he who is laying up treasure for himself, and is not rich towards God."
