Then Herod, seeing that he was mocked by the Magi, was exceedingly enraged; and he sent forth and slew all the male children that were in Bethlehem and in all her borders, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had accurately ascertained from the Magi. Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying,

"A voice was heard in Ramah, Weeping and great mourning; Rachel weeping for her children, And not willing to be comforted, Because they are not."
