Interwoven Gospels Then there arose from the disciples of John a dispute with a Jewish person about purification. And they came to John and said to him, "Rabbi, He who was with thee beyond the Jordan, to whom thou hast testified, behold, He is baptizing, and all are coming to Him." John answered and said, "A man can receive nothing unless it be given him from heaven. Ye yourselves testify of me, that I said, 'I am not the Christ, but, I am sent before Him." He that hath the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the voice of the bridegroom: this my joy, therefore, is complete. He must increase, but I must decrease. He Who cometh from above is above all; he that is of the earth, is of the earth and speaketh of the earth: He that cometh from heaven is above all. What He hath seen and heard, that He testifieth; and no one receiveth His testimony. He that hath received His testimony, hath set his seal to it, for God is true. For He whom God sent, speaketh the words of God: for He giveth not the Spirit by measure. The Father loveth the Son and hath given all things into His hand. He that believeth in the Son hath everlasting life; but he that obeyeth not the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abideth on him."
