Samuel Lamb (Lin Xiangao)

Lin Xiangao (often called Samuel Lamb) served as a pastor in Guangzhou, China, and became widely known for steady, Scripture-shaped leadership under pressure. Refusing to place Christ’s church under the state-controlled Three-Self Patriotic Church, he accepted the personal cost of a clear conscience. His earlier prison sentences were tied to continued worship outside official structures and to resisting bans on teaching the young—an insistence that the faith be handed down, not hidden. Lamb’s life illustrated a pastor’s calling to guard doctrine, feed the flock, and suffer loss rather than dilute the Word.

Guangzhou House Church Worship

Guangzhou, a major southern city, became a focal point for house church gatherings that prioritized prayer, preaching, and mutual care when public Christian life was restricted. On May 2, 1982, Lamb was arrested in Guangzhou for continuing to host house church worship despite official pressure. Lamb’s stand echoed the apostolic resolve: “We must obey God rather than men” (Acts 5:29).
