A Widow’s Hands in the Lord’s Work

Minnie Janofski (d. August 7, 1997)

Mrs. Minnie Janofski is remembered for a life that displayed the lasting power of quiet faithfulness. Widowed and not known for public achievements, she nevertheless bore steady witness to Christ through ordinary obedience. Those who knew her spoke less of grand plans and more of a settled willingness to serve, day after day, without needing applause.

Service in Bolivia (c. early 1970s–1990s)

Roughly twenty-four years before her death, Janofski went to Bolivia to assist missionaries. Far from being “supporting” work in a lesser sense, her labor formed part of the backbone of gospel ministry in places where distance, limited supplies, and constant needs could quickly wear workers down. In missionary homes and stations, she turned everyday tasks—cooking meals, sewing clothing, mending what was worn, and keeping practical order—into a steady ministry of hospitality and provision. By keeping gospel workers fed, clothed, and equipped, she helped sustain preaching, discipleship, and travel that depended on simple things being done well.

Faithfulness Without Spotlight

Janofski’s “heroism” was not dramatic but enduring: the courage to embrace small duties as worship, and to persevere in them over years. Her servant-heartedness welcomed weary guests, eased burdens that could have distracted from evangelism, and quietly modeled a Christian pattern of work done for the Lord rather than for recognition. Her life illustrated that maturity and later years are not spiritual sidelines but a season in which God often ripens humility, patience, and usefulness.

Legacy and Christian Example

The church remembers her as evidence that the Lord uses ordinary people for extraordinary good when they are offered to Him in humble obedience. Her story encourages believers to practice cheerful, practical love in Christ’s name, trusting that unseen service is seen by God: “Whatever you do, work at it with your whole being, for the Lord and not for men” (Colossians 3:23). It also echoes the promise that God honors even simple acts of care: “And whoever gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is My disciple, truly I tell you, he will never lose his reward” (Matthew 10:42).
