Sirach 28:23
Good News Translation
Its victims are those who have abandoned the Lord; once the fire of slander has been lit among them, it cannot be put out. Slander will pounce on them like a lion and tear them to pieces like a leopard.

New Revised Standard Version
Those who forsake the Lord will fall into its power; it will burn among them and will not be put out. It will be sent out against them like a lion; like a leopard it will mangle them.

Contemporary English Version
but those who reject him will be burned to ashes. And these cruel words are like lions and leopards, hunting down their victims and tearing them apart.

But those who forsake the Lord will fall victim to it, as it burns among them unquenchably; It will hurl itself against them like a lion, and like a leopard, it will tear them to pieces.
