You can know people by their appearance. The first time you look at them, you can tell if they have good sense.

A person is known by his appearance, and a sensible person is known when first met, face to face.

Merely by looking at people you know what they are like. And the first time you meet, you can tell if someone has good sense

People are known by their appearance; the sensible are recognized as such when first met.

Then the king said: Let all the inhabitants of the whole earth fear the God of Daniel: for he is the Saviour, working signs, and wonders in the earth: who hath delivered Daniel out of the lions' den.
