Sirach 18:13
Good News Translation
We can show compassion to someone we know, but the Lord shows compassion for all humanity. He corrects us; he disciplines us; he teaches us. Like a shepherd tending sheep, he brings us back to himself.

New Revised Standard Version
The compassion of human beings is for their neighbors, but the compassion of the Lord is for every living thing. He rebukes and trains and teaches them, and turns them back, as a shepherd his flock.

Contemporary English Version
We show mercy to our friends, but the Lord has mercy on everyone. He corrects and disciplines and teaches us, and leads us back to him like a shepherd leading a flock of sheep.
