Sirach 12:12
Good News Translation
Seat an enemy at your right hand, and the next thing you know he'll be trying to get your own place of honor. Put him next to you, and he will overthrow you. Then you will realize the truth of my words, and be stung with regret when you remember them.

New Revised Standard Version
Do not put him next to you, or he may overthrow you and take your place. Do not let him sit at your right hand, or else he may try to take your own seat, and at last you will realize the truth of my words, and be stung by what I have said.

Contemporary English Version
Don't make them your partners, or they will push you aside and take over. Then you will know I was right, and you will feel the sting of my words.

New American Bible
Do not let them stand near you, lest they push you aside and take your place. Do not let them sit at your right hand, or they will demand your seat, And in the end you will appreciate my advice, when you groan with regret, as I warned.
