Good News Translation
Holofernes led Nebuchadnezzar's army down to the Mediterranean coast. He stationed guards in all the walled towns and selected certain local men in each of the towns as reserve troops.

Then he went down to the seacoast with his army and stationed garrisons in the fortified towns and took picked men from them as auxiliaries.

Contemporary English Version
he led his army to the Mediterranean coast, where he stationed guards in every walled city and took the best men from these cities as soldiers.
