2 Maccabees 13:8
Good News Translation
and that was just what he deserved. He had often profaned the sacred ashes of the altar fire in the Temple, and now he met his death in ashes.

And this was eminently just; because he had committed many sins against the altar whose fire and ashes were holy, he met his death in ashes.

Such a death was a perfect punishment for someone who had so often disgraced the temple altar, together with its holy ashes and fire.
