1 Maccabees 7:19
Good News Translation
Bacchides left Jerusalem and set up his headquarters at Beth Zaith. He ordered the arrest of some of the faithful Jews and even many of the renegades who had willingly joined him; he had them killed and thrown into a deep pit.

New Revised Standard Version
Then Bacchides withdrew from Jerusalem and encamped in Beth-zaith. And he sent and seized many of the men who had deserted to him, and some of the people, and killed them and threw them into a great pit.

Contemporary English Version
Bacchides moved his army out of Jerusalem and set up camp near Beth-Zaith. From there he sent soldiers to arrest some of the Jews and those troops who had deserted his army. Then the soldiers murdered them all and dumped their bodies into a deep well.

New American Bible
Bacchides withdrew from Jerusalem and camped in Beth-zaith. He had many of the men who deserted to him arrested and some of the people. He killed them and threw them into a great cistern.
