Good News Translation
Antiochus came and tried to take the city and loot it, but he didn't succeed, because the citizens had learned what he was planning to do,

So he came and tried to take the city and plunder it, but he could not because his plan had become known to the citizens

Contemporary English Version
Antiochus tried to capture the city of Elymais and take its treasures. But his attack failed because the people found out about his plans and fought hard against him. Antiochus was terribly frustrated and started back toward Babylonia.
