Abel Beth-Maacha
Abel Beth-Maacha

Abel Beth-Maacha (Israel). When Sheba revolted against King David, he fled to this town, but a wise woman of the town persuaded her fellow townsmen to execute Sheba and throw his head over the wall to Joab (2 Samuel 20:4-22). Eighty years later the town was seized by Benhadad (1 Kings 15:20) and in 734 B. C. it was captured by Tiglath-pileser, who captured it and carried its people to Assyria (2 Kings 15:29).
