Romans 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. I. THE CONDITION ON WHICH WE ARE "SONS OF GOD." 1. Not mere creatureship. The stars, the birds, the flowers, are God's creatures. 2. Not mere resemblance. Even fallen men are made in the image of God, and have a potential likeness to Him. 3. But filial disposition. Men are the special creation of God; may have a special resemblance to Him; may have affection, not fear; may cry "Abba, Father." II. THE EVIDENCE THAT WE ARE "SONS OF GOD." There is — 1. The witness of God's Spirit. 2. The testimony of the spirit of man. III. THE RESULTS OF OUR BEING "SONS OF GOD." 1. We are heirs of God. 2. We are joint-heirs with Christ. (U. R. Thomas.)
