Luke 4:4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. The first lesson these words read to us is this. I. THAT WE ARE NOT DEPENDENT SOLELY ON MATERIAL THINGS FOR THE SUSTENANCE AND NOURISHMENT OF OUR LIFE. II. They teach us TO REFUSE TO HOLD OR SUPPORT OUR LIFE IN ANY WAY APART FROM GOD'S WORD. III. They point to the truth that THERE IS A LIFE TO WHICH BREAD DOES NOT MINISTER. (Studens.)
