The Veiled Cross
Luke 23:44-45
And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour.


I. THE SUGGESTIONS OF THIS DARKNESS.

1. It indicated the going out of the world's Light.

2. It represented the ignorance of the Gentiles, and the malignity of the Jews.

3. It reminds us of the mystery of the Atonement.

II. THE EFFECTS OF THE DARKNESS UPON THOSE WHO SURROUNDED THE CROSS.

1. It increased the solemnity of the event.

2. It veiled His agony from those who were around.

3. It whispered warning to the impenitent.
