For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man sees, why does he yet hope for?…

1. Immoderate sorrow in affliction.

2. Earthly-mindedness.

3. Slothfulness.

III. BY WHAT IT IS SUSTAINED.

1. Meditation on God.

2. Communion with Him.

3. Union with Christ.

4. The exercise of itself.
