10 Discipline is harsh for him who leaves the path; he who hates correction will die. There is severe discipline for him who forsakes the way; whoever hates reproof will die. Correction <i>is</i> grievous unto him that forsaketh the way: <i>and</i> he that hateth reproof shall die. There is severe punishment for one who abandons the way; One who hates a rebuke will die. Stern discipline awaits anyone who leaves the path; the one who hates correction will die.

12 A mocker does not love to be reproved, nor will he consult the wise. A scoffer does not like to be reproved; he will not go to the wise. A scorner loveth not one that reproveth him: neither will he go unto the wise. A scoffer does not love one who rebukes him; He will not go to the wise. Mockers resent correction, so they avoid the wise.
13 A joyful heart makes a cheerful countenance, but sorrow of the heart crushes the spirit. A glad heart makes a cheerful face, but by sorrow of heart the spirit is crushed. A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken. A joyful heart makes a cheerful face, But when the heart is sad, the spirit is broken. A happy heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit.
14 A discerning heart seeks knowledge, but the mouth of a fool feeds on folly. The heart of him who has understanding seeks knowledge, but the mouths of fools feed on folly. The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge: but the mouth of fools feedeth on foolishness. The mind of the intelligent seeks knowledge, But the mouth of fools feeds on foolishness. 15 All the days of the oppressed are bad, but a cheerful heart has a continual feast. All the days of the afflicted are evil, but the cheerful of heart has a continual feast. Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellers they are established. Without consultation, plans are frustrated, But with many counselors they succeed. 23 A man takes joy in a fitting reply and how good is a timely word! To make an apt answer is a joy to a man, and a word in season, how good it is! A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word <i>spoken</i> in due season, how good <i>is it</i>! A person has joy in an apt answer, And how delightful is a timely word! A person finds joy in giving an apt reply— and how good is a timely word!
24 The path of life leads upward for the wise, that he may avoid going down to Sheol. The path of life leads upward for the prudent, that he may turn away from Sheol beneath. The way of life <i>is</i> above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath. The path of life <i>leads</i> upward for the wise, So that he may keep away from Sheol below. The path of life leads upward for the prudent to keep them from going down to the realm of the dead.
25 The LORD tears down the house of the proud, but He protects the boundaries of the widow. The LORD tears down the house of the proud but maintains the widow’s boundaries. The LORD will destroy the house of the proud: but he will establish the border of the widow. The LORD will tear down the house of the proud, But He will set the boundary of the widow. 27 He who is greedy for unjust gain brings trouble on his household, but he who hates bribes will live. Whoever is greedy for unjust gain troubles his own household, but he who hates bribes will live. He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live. He who profits illicitly troubles his own house, But he who hates bribes will live. The greedy bring ruin to their households, but the one who hates bribes will live.

Whoever heeds life-giving correction will be at home among the wise.
32 He who ignores discipline despises himself, but whoever heeds correction gains understanding. Whoever ignores instruction despises himself, but he who listens to reproof gains intelligence. He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding. One who neglects discipline rejects himself, But one who listens to a rebuke acquires understanding. Those who disregard discipline despise themselves, but the one who heeds correction gains understanding.
33 The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom, and humility comes before honor. The fear of the LORD is instruction in wisdom, and humility comes before honor. The fear of the LORD <i>is</i> the instruction of wisdom; and before honour <i>is</i> humility. The fear of the LORD is the instruction for wisdom, And before honor <i>comes</i> humility. Wisdom’s instruction is to fear the LORD, and humility comes before honor.
