Clarke's Commentary on the BibleRachel's sepulcher - This was nigh to Bethlehem. See Genesis 35:19. At Zelzah - If this be the name of a place, nothing is known of it. The Hebrew בצלצח betseltsach is translated by the Septuagint ἁλλομενους μεγαλα, dancing greatly: now this may refer to the joy they felt and expressed on finding the asses, or it may refer to those religious exultations, or playing on instruments of music, mentioned in the succeeding verses. Genesis 35:16 Then they moved on from Bethel. While they were still some distance from Ephrath, Rachel began to give birth and had great difficulty.
Genesis 35:20 Over her tomb Jacob set up a pillar, and to this day that pillar marks Rachel's tomb.
