Christ's Coming Judgment

(Genesis 3:1-7; Genesis 7:1-5; Romans 5:12-21)

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
1Dear friends, this is now my second letter to you. I have written both of them as reminders to stimulate you to wholesome thinking.1This is now the second letter that I am writing to you, beloved. In both of them I am stirring up your sincere mind by way of reminder,1This is now, beloved, the second letter I am writing to you in which I am stirring up your sincere mind by way of reminder,1This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:1Dear friends, this is now the second letter I have written to you; in both letters, I want to develop a genuine understanding with a reminder,
2I want you to recall the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets and the command given by our Lord and Savior through your apostles.2that you should remember the predictions of the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior through your apostles,2that you should remember the words spoken beforehand by the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior spoken by your apostles.2That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:2so that you can remember the words previously spoken by the holy prophets and the command of our Lord and Savior given through your apostles.
3Above all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires.3knowing this first of all, that scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own sinful desires.3Know this first of all, that in the last days mockers will come with their mocking, following after their own lusts,3Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,3First, be aware of this: Scoffers will come in the last days to scoff, living according to their own desires,
4They will say, "Where is this 'coming' he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation."4They will say, “Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation.”4and saying, "Where is the promise of His coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all continues just as it was from the beginning of creation."4And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.4saying, "Where is the promise of His coming? Ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they have been since the beginning of creation."
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
5But they deliberately forget that long ago by God's word the heavens came into being and the earth was formed out of water and by water.5For they deliberately overlook this fact, that the heavens existed long ago, and the earth was formed out of water and through water by the word of God,5For when they maintain this, it escapes their notice that by the word of God the heavens existed long ago and the earth was formed out of water and by water,5For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:5They willfully ignore this: Long ago the heavens and the earth were brought about from water and through water by the word of God.
6By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed.6and that by means of these the world that then existed was deluged with water and perished.6through which the world at that time was destroyed, being flooded with water.6Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:6Through these waters the world of that time perished when it was flooded.
7By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.7But by the same word the heavens and earth that now exist are stored up for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.7But by His word the present heavens and earth are being reserved for fire, kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.7But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.7But by the same word, the present heavens and earth are stored up for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.

(Zephaniah 1:7-18; 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11)

8But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.8But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.8But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day.8But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.8Dear friends, don't let this one thing escape you: With the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day.
9The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.9The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.9The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.9The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.9The Lord does not delay His promise, as some understand delay, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish but all to come to repentance.

The Day of the Lord

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
10But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.10But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.10But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up.10But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.10But the Day of the Lord will come like a thief; on that day the heavens will pass away with a loud noise, the elements will burn and be dissolved, and the earth and the works on it will be disclosed.
11Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives11Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness,11Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness,11Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,11Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, it is clear what sort of people you should be in holy conduct and godliness
12as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat.12waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn!12looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the elements will melt with intense heat!12Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?12as you wait for and earnestly desire the coming of the day of God. The heavens will be on fire and be dissolved because of it, and the elements will melt with the heat.
13But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.13But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.13But according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.13Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.13But based on His promise, we wait for the new heavens and a new earth, where righteousness will dwell.

Final Exhortations

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
14So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him.14Therefore, beloved, since you are waiting for these, be diligent to be found by him without spot or blemish, and at peace.14Therefore, beloved, since you look for these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, spotless and blameless,14Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.14Therefore, dear friends, while you wait for these things, make every effort to be found at peace with Him without spot or blemish.
15Bear in mind that our Lord's patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him.15And count the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you according to the wisdom given him,15and regard the patience of our Lord as salvation; just as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given him, wrote to you,15And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;15Also, regard the patience of our Lord as an opportunity for salvation, just as our dear brother Paul has written to you according to the wisdom given to him.
16He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.16as he does in all his letters when he speaks in them of these matters. There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures.16as also in all his letters, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which the untaught and unstable distort, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction.16As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.16He speaks about these things in all his letters in which there are some matters that are hard to understand. The untaught and unstable twist them to their own destruction, as they also do with the rest of the Scriptures.
17Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure position.17You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, take care that you are not carried away with the error of lawless people and lose your own stability.17You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, be on your guard so that you are not carried away by the error of unprincipled men and fall from your own steadfastness,17Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.17Therefore, dear friends, since you know this in advance, be on your guard, so that you are not led away by the error of lawless people and fall from your own stability.
18But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.18But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.18but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.18But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.18But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.
