Make Your Calling Sure

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
3His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.3His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence,3seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.3According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:3His divine power has given us everything required for life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness.
4Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.4by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.4For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.4Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.4By these He has given us very great and precious promises, so that through them you may share in the divine nature, escaping the corruption that is in the world because of evil desires.
5For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge;5For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge,5Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge,5And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;5For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with goodness, goodness with knowledge,
6and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness;6and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness,6and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness,6And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;6knowledge with self-control, self-control with endurance, endurance with godliness,
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
7and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love.7and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love.7and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love.7And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.7godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love.
8For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.8For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.8For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.8For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.8For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they will keep you from being useless or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.9For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins.9For he who lacks these qualities is blind or short-sighted, having forgotten his purification from his former sins.9But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.9The person who lacks these things is blind and shortsighted and has forgotten the cleansing from his past sins.
10Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble,10Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall.10Therefore, brethren, be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choosing you; for as long as you practice these things, you will never stumble;10Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:10Therefore, brothers, make every effort to confirm your calling and election, because if you do these things you will never stumble.
11and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.11For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.11for in this way the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be abundantly supplied to you.11For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.11For in this way, entry into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be richly supplied to you.

Remember These Things

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
12So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have.12Therefore I intend always to remind you of these qualities, though you know them and are established in the truth that you have.12Therefore, I will always be ready to remind you of these things, even though you already know them, and have been established in the truth which is present with you.12Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth.12Therefore I will always remind you about these things, even though you know them and are established in the truth you have.
13I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of this body,13I think it right, as long as I am in this body, to stir you up by way of reminder,13I consider it right, as long as I am in this earthly dwelling, to stir you up by way of reminder,13Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;13I consider it right, as long as I am in this bodily tent, to wake you up with a reminder,
14because I know that I will soon put it aside, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me.14since I know that the putting off of my body will be soon, as our Lord Jesus Christ made clear to me.14knowing that the laying aside of my earthly dwelling is imminent, as also our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me.14Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me.14knowing that I will soon lay aside my tent, as our Lord Jesus Christ has also shown me.
15And I will make every effort to see that after my departure you will always be able to remember these things.15And I will make every effort so that after my departure you may be able at any time to recall these things.15And I will also be diligent that at any time after my departure you will be able to call these things to mind.15Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.15And I will also make every effort that you may be able to recall these things at any time after my departure.

We were Eyewitnesses

(Matthew 17:1-13; Mark 9:1-13; Luke 9:28-36)

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
16For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.16For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.16For we did not follow cleverly devised tales when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty.16For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.16For we did not follow cleverly contrived myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ; instead, we were eyewitnesses of His majesty.
17He received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased."17For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased,”17For when He received honor and glory from God the Father, such an utterance as this was made to Him by the Majestic Glory, "This is My beloved Son with whom I am well-pleased "--17For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.17For when He received honor and glory from God the Father, a voice came to Him from the Majestic Glory: This is My beloved Son. I take delight in Him!
18We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain.18we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain.18and we ourselves heard this utterance made from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain.18And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.18And we heard this voice when it came from heaven while we were with Him on the holy mountain.
19We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.19And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts,19So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts.19We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:19So we have the prophetic word strongly confirmed. You will do well to pay attention to it, as to a lamp shining in a dismal place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
20Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation of things.20knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation.20But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation,20Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.20First of all, you should know this: No prophecy of Scripture comes from one's own interpretation,
21For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.21For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.21for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.21For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.21because no prophecy ever came by the will of man; instead, men spoke from God as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.
