(Psalm 16:1-11; Psalm 49:1-20; Matthew 28:1-10; Mark 16:1-8; John 20:1-9)

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb.1But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared.1But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared.1Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.1On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came to the tomb, bringing the spices they had prepared.
They found the stone rolled away from the tomb,2And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb,2And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb,2And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.2They found the stone rolled away from the tomb.
but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.3but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.3but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.3And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.3They went in but did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.
While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them.4While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel.4While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men suddenly stood near them in dazzling clothing;4And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments:4While they were perplexed about this, suddenly two men stood by them in dazzling clothes.

In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, "Why do you look for the living among the dead?5And as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead?5and as the women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, "Why do you seek the living One among the dead?5And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?5So the women were terrified and bowed down to the ground." Why are you looking for the living among the dead?" asked the men. "
He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee:6He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee,6"He is not here, but He has risen. Remember how He spoke to you while He was still in Galilee,6He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee,6He is not here, but He has been resurrected! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee,
The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.' "7that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise.”7saying that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again."7Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.7saying, The Son of Man must be betrayed into the hands of sinful men, be crucified, and rise on the third day?"
Then they remembered his words.8And they remembered his words,8And they remembered His words,8And they remembered his words,8And they remembered His words.
When they came back from the tomb, they told all these things to the Eleven and to all the others.9and returning from the tomb they told all these things to the eleven and to all the rest.9and returned from the tomb and reported all these things to the eleven and to all the rest.9And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest.9Returning from the tomb, they reported all these things to the Eleven and to all the rest.

It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the others with them who told this to the apostles.10Now it was Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary the mother of James and the other women with them who told these things to the apostles,10Now they were Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary the mother of James; also the other women with them were telling these things to the apostles.10It was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles.10Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them were telling the apostles these things.
But they did not believe the women, because their words seemed to them like nonsense.11but these words seemed to them an idle tale, and they did not believe them.11But these words appeared to them as nonsense, and they would not believe them.11And their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not.11But these words seemed like nonsense to them, and they did not believe the women.
Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. Bending over, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves, and he went away, wondering to himself what had happened.12But Peter rose and ran to the tomb; stooping and looking in, he saw the linen cloths by themselves; and he went home marveling at what had happened.12But Peter got up and ran to the tomb; stooping and looking in, he saw the linen wrappings only; and he went away to his home, marveling at what had happened.12Then arose Peter, and ran unto the sepulchre; and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which was come to pass.12Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. When he stooped to look in, he saw only the linen cloths. So he went home, amazed at what had happened.

The Road to Emmaus

(Mark 16:12-13)

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem.13That very day two of them were going to a village named Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem,13And behold, two of them were going that very day to a village named Emmaus, which was about seven miles from Jerusalem.13And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs.13Now that same day two of them were on their way to a village called Emmaus, which was about seven miles from Jerusalem.
They were talking with each other about everything that had happened.14and they were talking with each other about all these things that had happened.14And they were talking with each other about all these things which had taken place.14And they talked together of all these things which had happened.14Together they were discussing everything that had taken place.
As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them;15While they were talking and discussing together, Jesus himself drew near and went with them.15While they were talking and discussing, Jesus Himself approached and began traveling with them.15And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.15And while they were discussing and arguing, Jesus Himself came near and began to walk along with them.
but they were kept from recognizing him.16But their eyes were kept from recognizing him.16But their eyes were prevented from recognizing Him.16But their eyes were holden that they should not know him.16But they were prevented from recognizing Him.
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
He asked them, "What are you discussing together as you walk along?" They stood still, their faces downcast.17And he said to them, “What is this conversation that you are holding with each other as you walk?” And they stood still, looking sad.17And He said to them, "What are these words that you are exchanging with one another as you are walking?" And they stood still, looking sad.17And he said unto them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad?17Then He asked them, "What is this dispute that you're having with each other as you are walking?" And they stopped walking and looked discouraged.
One of them, named Cleopas, asked him, "Are you the only one visiting Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?"18Then one of them, named Cleopas, answered him, “Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?”18One of them, named Cleopas, answered and said to Him, "Are You the only one visiting Jerusalem and unaware of the things which have happened here in these days?"18And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days?18The one named Cleopas answered Him, "Are You the only visitor in Jerusalem who doesn't know the things that happened there in these days?"
"What things?" he asked. "About Jesus of Nazareth," they replied. "He was a prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people.19And he said to them, “What things?” And they said to him, “Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, a man who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people,19And He said to them, "What things?" And they said to Him, "The things about Jesus the Nazarene, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word in the sight of God and all the people,19And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:19"What things?" He asked them. So they said to Him, "The things concerning Jesus the Nazarene, who was a Prophet powerful in action and speech before God and all the people,
The chief priests and our rulers handed him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him;20and how our chief priests and rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and crucified him.20and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered Him to the sentence of death, and crucified Him.20And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him.20and how our chief priests and leaders handed Him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified Him.
but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. And what is more, it is the third day since all this took place.21But we had hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things happened.21"But we were hoping that it was He who was going to redeem Israel. Indeed, besides all this, it is the third day since these things happened.21But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done.21But we were hoping that He was the One who was about to redeem Israel. Besides all this, it's the third day since these things happened.

In addition, some of our women amazed us. They went to the tomb early this morning22Moreover, some women of our company amazed us. They were at the tomb early in the morning,22"But also some women among us amazed us. When they were at the tomb early in the morning,22Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre;22Moreover, some women from our group astounded us. They arrived early at the tomb,
but didn't find his body. They came and told us that they had seen a vision of angels, who said he was alive.23and when they did not find his body, they came back saying that they had even seen a vision of angels, who said that he was alive.23and did not find His body, they came, saying that they had also seen a vision of angels who said that He was alive.23And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive.23and when they didn't find His body, they came and reported that they had seen a vision of angels who said He was alive.
Then some of our companions went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but they did not see Jesus."24Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but him they did not see.”24"Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just exactly as the women also had said; but Him they did not see."24And certain of them which were with us went to the sepulchre, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not.24Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but they didn't see Him."

Jesus Explains the Prophecies

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
He said to them, "How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken!25And he said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken!25And He said to them, "O foolish men and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken!25Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:25He said to them, "How unwise and slow you are to believe in your hearts all that the prophets have spoken!
Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?"26Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?”26"Was it not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and to enter into His glory?"26Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?26Didn't the Messiah have to suffer these things and enter into His glory?"
And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.27And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.27Then beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures.27And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.27Then beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, He interpreted for them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures.
As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus continued on as if he were going farther.28So they drew near to the village to which they were going. He acted as if he were going farther,28And they approached the village where they were going, and He acted as though He were going farther.28And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went: and he made as though he would have gone further.28They came near the village where they were going, and He gave the impression that He was going farther.

But they urged him strongly, "Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over." So he went in to stay with them.29but they urged him strongly, saying, “Stay with us, for it is toward evening and the day is now far spent.” So he went in to stay with them.29But they urged Him, saying, "Stay with us, for it is getting toward evening, and the day is now nearly over." So He went in to stay with them.29But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them.29But they urged Him: "Stay with us, because it's almost evening, and now the day is almost over." So He went in to stay with them.
When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them.30When he was at table with them, he took the bread and blessed and broke it and gave it to them.30When He had reclined at the table with them, He took the bread and blessed it, and breaking it, He began giving it to them.30And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them.30It was as He reclined at the table with them that He took the bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them.
Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight.31And their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. And he vanished from their sight.31Then their eyes were opened and they recognized Him; and He vanished from their sight.31And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.31Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized Him, but He disappeared from their sight.
They asked each other, "Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?"32They said to each other, “Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he opened to us the Scriptures?”32They said to one another, "Were not our hearts burning within us while He was speaking to us on the road, while He was explaining the Scriptures to us?"32And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?32So they said to each other, "Weren't our hearts ablaze within us while He was talking with us on the road and explaining the Scriptures to us?"
They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and those with them, assembled together33And they rose that same hour and returned to Jerusalem. And they found the eleven and those who were with them gathered together,33And they got up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem, and found gathered together the eleven and those who were with them,33And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them,33That very hour they got up and returned to Jerusalem. They found the Eleven and those with them gathered together,

Then the two told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognized by them when he broke the bread.35Then they told what had happened on the road, and how he was known to them in the breaking of the bread.35They began to relate their experiences on the road and how He was recognized by them in the breaking of the bread.35And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread.35Then they began to describe what had happened on the road and how He was made known to them in the breaking of the bread.

Jesus Appears to the Disciples

While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, "Peace be with you."36As they were talking about these things, Jesus himself stood among them, and said to them, “Peace to you!”36While they were telling these things, He Himself stood in their midst and said to them, "Peace be to you."36And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.36And as they were saying these things, He Himself stood among them. He said to them, "Peace to you!"
They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost.37But they were startled and frightened and thought they saw a spirit.37But they were startled and frightened and thought that they were seeing a spirit.37But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.37But they were startled and terrified and thought they were seeing a ghost.
He said to them, "Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds?38And he said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your hearts?38And He said to them, "Why are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your hearts?38And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?38"Why are you troubled?" He asked them. "And why do doubts arise in your hearts?
Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have."39See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me, and see. For a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.”39"See My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself; touch Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have."39Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.39Look at My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself! Touch Me and see, because a ghost does not have flesh and bones as you can see I have."

When he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet.40And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet.40And when He had said this, He showed them His hands and His feet.40And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet.40Having said this, He showed them His hands and feet.
And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them, "Do you have anything here to eat?"41And while they still disbelieved for joy and were marveling, he said to them, “Have you anything here to eat?”41While they still could not believe it because of their joy and amazement, He said to them, "Have you anything here to eat?"41And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat?41But while they still were amazed and unbelieving because of their joy, He asked them, "Do you have anything here to eat?"
They gave him a piece of broiled fish,42They gave him a piece of broiled fish,42They gave Him a piece of a broiled fish;42And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb.42So they gave Him a piece of a broiled fish,
and he took it and ate it in their presence.43and he took it and ate before them.43and He took it and ate it before them.43And he took it, and did eat before them.43and He took it and ate in their presence.

He said to them, "This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms."44Then he said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.”44Now He said to them, "These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things which are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled."44And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.44Then He told them, "These are My words that I spoke to you while I was still with you--that everything written about Me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms must be fulfilled."
Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.45Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures,45Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures,45Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,45Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures.
He told them, "This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day,46and said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead,46and He said to them, "Thus it is written, that the Christ would suffer and rise again from the dead the third day,46And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:46He also said to them, "This is what is written: The Messiah would suffer and rise from the dead the third day,
and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.47and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem.47and that repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.47And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.47and repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

You are witnesses of these things.48You are witnesses of these things.48"You are witnesses of these things.48And ye are witnesses of these things.48You are witnesses of these things.
I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high."49And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”49"And behold, I am sending forth the promise of My Father upon you; but you are to stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high."49And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.49And look, I am sending you what My Father promised.
